VOŠ Scholastika x JanskyDundera at Designblok 2024

Students of Product Design at College of Visual Communication Scholastika, under the guidance of the JanskyDundera studio, will present an unconventional semester titled Grill, Knife & Fire at the 26th Designblok from October 2 to 6, 2024. Students will showcase products derived from the summer semester assignment. Under the guidance of the JanskyDundera design studio, they created fire starters and knives, and from found items from the collection yard, they made functional grills. Selected works displayed in the spaces of the Museum of Applied Arts will be complemented by a video installation that presents the entire process of their creation.

"We presented the assignment to the students gradually. In the first part, they chose any material, and only then were they tasked with creating a knife and a fire starter. The final task was to select an item from the recycling yard and transform it into a functional grill. The goal was for the students to step out of their comfort zone, not to work with limitless options, but to respond to the limits imposed by the resources available while also conserving materials, which is a significant expense for their budget," explains the studio manager Matěj Janský from JanskyDundera studio.

On Thursday, October 3, an experimental grilling will take place in the garden of the Museum of Applied Arts with chef Vojta Nemrava from the ZE MĚ projekt, featuring the upcycled grills on display. "It was important for us to have the opportunity to verify the functionality of the final works and also to include considerations of all the demands that practical tools require in the process itself. We involved Vojta from the ZE MĚ projekt in the whole event, who is an incredibly skilled chef and sufficiently open to our experiment. He provided the students with very useful advice during his workshop," adds designer Cyril Dunděra from JanskyDundera studio, providing information about the accompanying program.
