Based on extensive discussions, the design duo has decided to pursue their future creative work independently, outside the JanskyDundera studio. Their collaboration will continue in a more flexible format, with a primary focus on short-term projects that respond to current topics and bring unexpected visual impulses. Under the new motto TEMPORARY CONTEMPORARY, the pair will concentrate on one-off design interventions and creative consultations aimed at helping clients here and now.
“Long-term projects have allowed us to achieve comprehensive precision and gain valuable experience, but we also feel the need to step back from this form of collaboration and take a deep breath again. Approaching new projects individually will give us the freedom to experiment and respond to different themes,” says Matěj Janský. Cyril Dunděra further explains: “We discussed this step for a long time and tried to extract the best from our collaboration so far — for us, that has always been taking things with a sense of humor, designing with lightness, and enjoying the shared hands-on realization of products and installations.”
“Until now, we have operated under the abbreviation MCDJ, a combination of both our initials, but from now on we’ll be working more as MJ and CD,” say Matěj Janský and Cyril Dunděra with a smile, as they now become two independent authors. While Matěj is moving more toward free artistic creation and cross-disciplinary design work, Cyril aims to further establish himself as a product and interior designer. “We’re still partners, and above all, still friends. But when it comes to joint projects, we now want to choose only what we’ve always done best.” TEMPORARY CONTEMPORARY will thus be about the present moment — one that can leave a lasting and positive impact.
